About OQC
At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round which is the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.
The Purpose
Power the people processes that support OQC’s next stage of growth.
You will deliver accurate, timely, and consistent operational HR support across the employee lifecycle, ensuring our team and managers have a seamless, dependable experience as we scale.
By taking ownership of day-to-day HR administration and continuous process improvements, you will help establish a solid operational foundation that enables the wider People team to deliver on strategic priorities.
The Role
You will be the backbone of our day-to-day people operations, managing the employee journey from offer acceptance through to offboarding.
You will champion operational accuracy and data integrity across our HR platforms, coordinate cross-functionally with IT, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and hiring managers, and act as a reliable first point of contact for employee queries.
This is a hybrid position based three days per week at our Reading office, working independently within established frameworks while handling confidential and sensitive employee data.
What You'll Be Working On
• Drive end-to-end onboarding and offboarding: Manage pre-employment checks, contracts, induction prep, and IT arrangements to guarantee a polished, welcoming new-starter experience.
• Own employee lifecycle administration: Draft employment contracts, promotional letters, contractual amendments, and probation correspondence using standardized processes and templates.
• Safeguard HR data and systems: Maintain up-to-date and accurate employee records in HiBob, resolve data discrepancies, and uphold strict data protection and confidentiality standards.
• Coordinate payroll and benefits inputs: Collate, review, and submit monthly payroll variations (new joiners, leavers, salary adjustments) within key deadlines, escalating complex queries appropriately.
• Provide frontline HR support: Act as the first port of call for routine employee and manager enquiries on company policies and HR processes, escalating complex or sensitive topics when needed.
• Deliver operational reporting and tracking: Produce and maintain essential trackers and reports across headcount, absence, probation milestones, and onboarding progress.
• Tackle backlogs and refine processes: Actively eliminate administrative backlogs, refine checklists and SOPs, and propose practical ways to make workflows more efficient.
What We're Looking For
• Proven experience in an HR administration, HR coordination, or HR operations role managing routine employee lifecycle workflows.
• Demonstrated success running end-to-end onboarding logistics and pre-employment checks to strict deadlines.
• Practical experience maintaining employee records and data within HR Information Systems (HRIS) or related databases.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines independently and with high attention to detail.
• Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, paired with a sound understanding of when to escalate sensitive issues.
• Cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience following up with stakeholders (e.g., IT, Finance, Hiring Managers) to keep processes moving forward.
• Solid awareness of data privacy and experience handling confidential personnel information.
• Working proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth, or scaling tech/engineering organisation.
• Direct experience with tools such as HiBob, Workable, or Zinc.
• Experience preparing routine payroll change files or administering benefits, leave, and absence programs.
• Experience tackling administrative backlogs and driving process improvement or documentation updates.
Why Join OQC
You will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
